The Springer Opera House, a National Historic Landmark and State Theater of Georgia, located in Uptown Columbus, is one the most outstanding structures of its type in the entire southeast. Since 1871 its three-tier boxes have delighted generations of theater-goers. Almost every major performer of the late 19th and 20th centuries, including Edwin Booth, Will Rogers, and Irving Berlin has graced the stage. The Springer serves as home base for the Springer Theater Company, an amateur dramatic company which produces five shows a year.

Columbus' Confederate Naval Museum is also nationally recognized as a significant historical site. Here the remains of the CSS Chattahoochee and the CSS Jackson-Muscogee are on display. Both gunboats were burned and sunk to prevent capture by Union Forces during an invasion of Columbus near the end of the War Between the States and they were raised from their watery graves nearly 100 years later.
