A Belief Worth Having
Nov 04, 2016
Of all the things that we could or should believe in, I find it quite concerning that one of the biggest things we have trouble believing in is ourselves. That we are good enough. That we are credible and that the world should actually listen to what we have to say. People seem to be constantly challenging their own wisdom and accepting, with a blind eye, the validity of others’ opinions over their own. They seem to believe that the subjective experience of another is somehow more important or contains a greater worth than our own. This is a fallacy and something that needs to be put aside if we are to reach our true potential. The truth is that our own experience and expression of it is one of the purest forms of self. The purpose of your life is quite literally to be the highest expression of your inner values, beliefs and capabilities - To be the best example of your unique self or ‘The You’.
Belief is the foundation upon which our actions are built. Without the belief in self, the value that we are meant to bring to the world is diminished. That is a pretty big deal! You are a unique puzzle piece in this world and without you playing your part, the world is less because of it. The world yearns for the unique mastery each individual can bring to it. It desperately wants the opinion and expression of ‘The You’. Without it, the collective puzzle can never be complete. Belief in your own unique value is central to helping complete that puzzle for us all.
But what if people judge me for being that highest expression of self? What if I do it wrong? On that, I’d like to point you back up to the first paragraph of this post. Give yourself the benefit of the doubt and trust in your intrinsic value. In your purpose. Failure is not a metric of expressing oneself and being judged for it. Failure is never trying to express yourself in the first place.
So think about it. What would “The You” do in regards to expressing yourself and your beliefs? Would that person shrink in the presence of others and shy away from the light? Or would that version of you step boldly forward and express it how it is? Think about being that powerful version of you for a moment. How does it feel to be the person who expresses themselves in a congruent and confident fashion? How does it feel to know that you are acting in alignment with your vision, values and beliefs? What do you say? How do you stand, breath and envision your powerful future?
Whether or not you believe it yet, the world needs you to step up and be ‘The You”. The highest expression of your unique values, beliefs and capabilities. You, and only you, have the ability to bring your unique value to the puzzle of life. The world is a more complete place because of you, so believe in yourself. Believe that you matter and in your innate value to the whole. After all, aren’t puzzles best when they have all the pieces?
I leave you with a quote:
“Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” - Dr. Suess
I believe that’s true and in ‘The You’ and I hope now that maybe you do too.
